Tariq is an astrophysicist by training and research. He was appointed as the first Director of the Energy & Environment Office (EEO), Imperial College London to initiate cross-faculty, inter-disciplinary research in strategic areas of Energy, Environment and Sustainability
Key activities of the EEO include research and business development through strategic relationships with international academic institutions, government agencies, business and other stakeholders. |
Tariq has assisted the UK Chief Scientific Adviser on a review of UK Energy R&D priorities, and has participated in meetings and briefings with the Prime Minister at No. 10, the House of Commons Select Committee on Science & Technology and many international academic and business events. He is a current member of the UK Energy Minister’s Renewables Advisory Board, a member of the Singapore British Business Council (environment & energy committee co-chair) and a member of the Editorial Advisory Boards of Imperial College Press and the Indian Journal on Resources, Energy and Development. He has been invited on a number of environmental and sustainability missions overseas as part of the UK Ministerial delegation. Tariq was proud to be associated with the successful London 2012 bid where he acted as advisor on sustainability. A major current project is helping to establish a world leading Institute in Climate Change and its Consequences. Tariq, by virtue of birthplace, is destined to be a lifelong supporter of Newcastle United FC.
