It is possible to buy wine literally anywhere these days. Grocery stores carry plenty of generic wine which certainly won’t kill anyone. Small neighborhood wine stores focus either on local wineries or on what the owner likes to drink. Supporting small business is fun and all, but they have access to basically the same supply that your grocery store does.
Online wine clubs offer probably more choice, although the big problem with online wine clubs is that you never know exactly what you are going to get. Will they ship excellent wine? Will they ship close out wines that they only bought because the price point was right? Unless you can find some honest reviews (let’s be honest, not all online reviews are anything close to honest) it is hard to know for sure.
My suggestion: instead of signing up on an ongoing basis, why not buy a set length membership and see if you like the wine. If you don’t, you won’t even have to worry about cancelling!
