B2B3 Theme Leader: Dr Richard Murphy

Richard Murphy’s research is concerned with the biology and properties of wood and plant fibre materials. Much of it is carried out through collaborations within the College, with colleagues at other institutes and companies in the UK and internationally.

Research Activities Include:

1) Fungi as decomposers of woody tissues - mechanisms and significance,
2) Wood preservative fungicides - distribution and efficacy in wood products,
3) Organisation and development of plant cell walls, particularly bamboos
4) Environmental impact assessment of wood/plant fibre products with LCA methods
