The basic configuration of chainsaws has not changed over the years although the motor, chain and mechanism themselves have undergone some drastic changes.

Today you can even get yourself a tiny battery operated chainsaw but in the past most were gasoline powered because that offered the highest output at the least cost. The best chainsaw for home use is probably a battery powered or mains electric driven model.

Chainsaws can be divided into three distinct components. One component is the motor at the back with its clutch system and gears. The front of the saw consists of the other two parts, namely the bar at the center and a chain link running over it with serrated teeth on one side.

Chainsaws are powerful and can be used to cut down large trees, prune branches, create sculptures out of trees, stone and even ice. They require regular maintenance such as oiling of the links and sharpening of the edges. If looked after and maintained properly they will last you for a long time.
